Hypertension and High Blood Pressure: Silent Killer!!

I wasn't able to blog this past few days because I had a busy week!My aunt was admitted to the hospital because of mild stroke....Actually, hypertension and high blood pressure runs in the family...My grandma died of stroke...

According to the book ''Home Remedies Handbook'' high blood pressure is having blood pressure equal to or higher than 160 systolic over 95 diastolic. Between 140 and 159 systolic over 90 to 94 diastolic is considered ''borderline'' high. Below these numbers is considered normal. Aside from stroke, high blood pressure can cause blindness, kidney failure and heart failure.

Like my father,if your family have a history of hypertension then it is possible that you may be in this condition. Other than this, blacks, overweight individuals, aging individuals and pregnant women or those that are taking oral contraceptives are also at risk of having hypertension.

However, hypertension can be controlled. The doctor could give you medication to control your blood pressure. You should also make some changes in your lifestyle. You should quit smoking and over drinking since it could trigger hypertension. However, hypertension is untreatable. Though, cutting off your bad habits means a longer and a healthier life.

Like some other problems in this world, controlling hypertension must start in recognizing it. Recognizing with acceptance that you have the hypertension. Denying the fact that you have a problem doesn't help,in fact, it can worsen the situation. You've got to visit your doctor always, take your medication faithfully, eat right diet for hypertension individuals, and report to your doctor if you feel something wrong within yourself.

Overweight individual tends to have hypertension more than those who have a light or normal weight. Here, it is more advisable to loose weight in any way.

A home blood pressure monitor is very helpful for those hypertensive individuals. At home, we frequently check our father's blood pressure. As a health giver...My obligation is to promote health to my patient...What more in my own home...I really know how important it is to monitor our vitals signs frequently...At home, we have 2 sphygmomanometer...And a stethoscope...

Ever since my father developed a heart failure, he never fail to exercise every morning. He feels better each time and as a support, we go with him. Sometimes, the family walk together, isn't that a healthy bonding habit? Well, that works for us...

I know that hypertensive medicine is kind expensive...But taking it is very important...It's a matter of life and death...Besides a medicine is less expensive than a room per day in the hospital...Right? We obviously know this since we spend 200,000 pesos when my father was admitted...!

One thing that we told our father over and over again is to relax. However obviously, he never listen to us. He wants to be always busy... Plus all those problems coming our way...My father really take those problems seriously that is why we never leave him alone...My father is already 59 years old and still working...We are very proud of him...He never smokes, he occasionally drinks but never get drunk, he is a very responsible, God fearing (we are Jehovah's Witnesses) father to us. Coping with this problem doesn't just take personal adjustment but also encouragement from family and friends.
